After the devastation of the Second World War, Central Europe experienced a historically unique period of relative peace. That era has come to an end. For more than four years, a war in violation of international law has been raging in our immediate neighborhood – at a distance comparable to that between Flensburg and Stuttgart. Its consequences extend far beyond the front lines and are increasingly affecting our own country and daily lives. Nearly all areas of public life are confronted with the task of responding to this altered reality. Universities and their academic medical centers are no exception. But what concrete implications does this have for research, teaching, and patient care?
